My close friend Heidi Small is a bit of a superhero: a raiser of millions of dollars for brain cancer in honour of her late dad (Montreal dentist Dr. Allan Small) with her annual fundraising event, A Brilliant Night (https://www.abrilliantnight.com/); a connector extraordinaire; a foodie to-beat-the-band; a friend to many in Montreal; and as of this week… the newest columnist at the Montreal Gazette.
It can be hard to keep up with Heidi, but I think I’ve managed to, and I have some exciting news I can now report. I’m thrilled to share that Heidi and I have just begun a collaboration on a 12-episode food series for the Gazette called Beyond the Plate, which will accompany her monthly columns.
Hosted by Heidi, shot & directed by me, and edited by cutter-par-excellence Teagan Lance, our twelve short videos will document some of Montreal’s very finest chefs being pulled from the confines of their beloved kitchens and brought out on one-of-a-kind adventures with Heidi in the Montreal region. We’re talking visits to farms, fishing trips, mushroom foraging, and other unexpected journeys we’ll be announcing throughout the year.
Our first Beyond the Plate video features celebrated Olive et Gourmando (http://oliveetgourmando.com) and Foxy (http://foxy.restaurant) chef and co-owner Dyan Solomon. You can watch it and read Heidi’s inaugural Gazette column here:

Thanks for sharing word of Beyond the Plate with your foodie friends. And enjoy the first episode.
