B’nai Brith Canada holds Yom HaShoah event
To mark the annual Holocaust commemoration of Yom HaShoah, B’nai Brith Canada held an event at Or Shalom Synagogue in Dollard des Ormeaux, in part because the jurisdiction recognizes the IHRA definition of antisemitism.
Leaders from various communities showed their solidarity by participating. In addition, city councillors Sonny Moroz of Côte des Neiges-NDG, Jacques Cohen of Saint-Laurent and Mayor Jeremy Levi of Hampstead were on hand, to name a few.
B’nai Brith’s League for Human Rights National Director Marvin Rotrand presided over the event and reminded those in attendance that the organization’s annual audit on Antisemitism in Canada, which came out earlier in the week, revealed that hate incidents against the Jewish community were up over seven percent across the country.
Over 100 names of those who were murdered in the Holocaust were read out in an emotional scene.
