Raphael specializes in Canadian and international tax, corporate reorganization and M&A. He is best known for his extensive knowledge of Canadian and international tax laws, more particularly on real estate matters.
His practice is mainly directed towards the real estate industry (Canadian and U.S. land developers, home builders, seniors housing and long-term care, hospitality, retail, office, shopping centers and industrial property developers and managers, for Canadian and U.S. real property). Raphael advises clients on taxation issues associated with effective structuring of domestic and cross-border real estate operations, tax-advantaged real estate acquisition, disposition and financing strategies, reorganizations as well as land transfer tax.Raphael advises clients on mergers and acquisitions by understating complex corporate, trust and partnership tax issues.
He is an experienced and trusted advisor who provides concrete results for every file he takes on. His clients range from local to international, with many complex files requiring his expertise in individual and corporate tax planning, as well as estate planning.
Raphael also handles every step of the tax dispute resolution. Raphael is currently teaching at the Master of Taxation at HEC Montreal and previously taught Tax at the McGill University (Faculty of Law). Raphael is also a tax tutor with CPA Canada. Previously, Raphael has taught business law as a part-time lecturer at HEC Montréal. Altogether, he has contributed to more than 180 conferences/publications on legal and tax matters. In addition to being a member of the Québec bar, Raphael is also an active member at the Canadian Tax Foundation, the Association de planification fiscale et financière, the Ontario Bar Association and the International Fiscal Association.
