On October 25, the Lord Reading Law Society hosted a gala evening featuring the Honourable Rosalie Abella of the Supreme Court of Canada and the Honourable Stephen Breyer of the United States Supreme Court in a discussion moderated by Canada’s former justice minister, the Honourable Irwin Cotler. In a captivating exchange, each of the esteemed panellists discussed their role as Justices in the highest court of their respective countries, while contrasting the Canadian and US approaches to freedom of speech and other human rights issues.

Held in the banquet halls of Westmount’s Shaar Hashomayim Synagogue, the gala dinner was attended by some 500 individuals, including luminaries from Montreal’s legal, academic, political and diplomatic communities. David Ettedgui is the president of the Lord Reading Society.
